Mental Health Services

Mental health problems range from reactions to normal life events (such as bereavement and relationship breakdowns) and depression, to more complex conditions such as schizophrenia.

Mental ill health can affect anyone at any time.

Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT) provides specialist health services for people:

  • with a learning disability
  • with mental health issues
  • with drug or alcohol problems

The Mental Health of Children and Young People

Working in Partnership with Children’s Services through the Children’s and Young Peoples Strategic Partnership, NHS Lincolnshire has increased the numbers of Primary Mental Health Workers in CAMHS Services (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services).

This has been in support of the implementation of the Choice and Partnership approach by Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. This new approach has supported the reductions in waiting times, improvements and access and is expected to improve the outcomes and experience of Children and Young People using Mental Health Services.

Working Age Adults

The full role out of Primary Care Mental Health Services in 2007/2008 was provided by Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. These new services aim to improve access, reduce waiting times and to increase the use of supported self help and psychological therapies.

NHS Lincolnshire have been working in partnership with the National Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Team, to revise the care pathway and to design a system that ensures that people receive timely and effective treatment for common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression.

NHS Lincolnshire have also been working with Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to develop a new local complex Mental Health Rehabilitation Service, the first phase of which has enabled individuals with very complex mental health needs who have traditionally been treated out of county to come back into Lincolnshire to receive more effective treatment.

NHS Lincolnshire are continuing to work in partnership with Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to further develop this approach for future years.

Working with the Mental Health Service and User Representatives in Lincolnshire and working in Partnership with Lincolnshire County Council Adults Social Care

NHS Lincolnshire have commissioned Lincolnshire’s first project of User Focused Monitoring (UFM). This involves training and recruiting current, or former Service Users, to assess and evaluate quality of services.

In 2007/8 NHS Lincolnshire also improved its support for carers of people with mental health problems by providing increased resources of a Specialist Mental Health Carers Service provided by Rethink.

Older Adults

The development of a Care Pathway for people with Dementia is part of a national initiative working with the National Order Office.

The key partners in Lincolnshire have worked together to make some recommendations on the range and type of services which are needed to improve the care of people with dementia.
