The new service will help you, if you need urgent or out of hours advice or treatment outside your GP Practice. It will also give you more choice about who you share your health information with and it will provide you with the ability to access your own summarised health record, if you wish, through a secure website called HealthSpace .
As a first step, information about allergies, current prescriptions and any previous bad reactions to medicines will be taken from your GP record. With your consent, this ‘summarized’ information will form the basis of your Summary Care Record; it will be made available to NHS professionals treating you in a range of NHS locations in England, such as Accident and Emergency (A&E) departments, GP Out of Hours (OOH) departments and walk-in-centers.
The ‘summary’ will provide NHS professionals with important information about your health when you receive care away from your GP surgery. NHS professionals will only be able to access your health information if they are involved in your treatment and care under strict security measures and they will ask you first before viewing your health information.
If you are registered with a participating GP Practice you will have received a letter explaining the Summary Care Record and details on where to access further information.
However if your GP Practice is not participating in SCR as yet, further information can be obtained through:
