Information Governance

Information Governance manages, coordinates, monitors and supports the standards of the Information Governance Toolkit which encompasses the Statement of Compliance (SoC) Requirements throughout NHS Lincolnshire and that of its Commissioning Contractors throughout Lincolnshire.

The national framework is implemented locally to provide:

  • clear and effective management and accountability structures,
  • governance processes,
  • documented policies and procedures,
  • a comprehensive Information Governance training programme
  • and adequate resources to manage and embed information governance throughout the Organisation

Information Governance Services pull together all of the requirements for information governance providing advice and guidance to ensure that personal information is processed legally, securely, efficiently and effectively in order to deliver the best possible care to patients.

The principles directives are:-

  • Caldicott recommendations relating to confidentiality, the use of patient-related data and the procedures and processes that must be in place to protect it. A programme of assessment and improvement must be introduced and reported.
  • The Data Protection Act 1998 which lays down the statutory requirements for the processing of information about people by which all organisations and individuals must abide. Rachel Markham is the nominated Data Protection Officer for the majority of the partner organisations.
  • Other relevant directives include Access to Health Records Act and the NHS Code of Confidentiality.
