Transition - Changes to the NHS

The NHS is going through a period of unprecedented transition. PCTs (Primary Care Trusts) will be abolished in April 2013 to be replaced by Clinic Commissioning Groups run by local GPs.

The Government set out its long-term vision for the future of the NHS in the White Paper, “Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS”.

This vision builds on the core values and principles of the NHS - a comprehensive service, available to all, free at the point of use, based on need, not ability to pay.

These reforms will touch every part of the NHS and have an impact on almost every organisation that delivers NHS care.

Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs)

Primary Care Trusts (PCTs), like NHS Lincolnshire, have a critical role to play until April 2013, supporting this transition to enable commissioning to be carried out by local Clinical Commissioning Groups or the new NHS Commissioning Board.

More information about the new Clinical Commissioning Groups in Lincolnshire can be found here

Health and Wellbeing Board

Health and Wellbeing Boards will give power to councils and those they work with to improve the wellbeing of local people. Lincolnshire County Council is currently putting such a board in place.
